This Is Radio Silence
This Is Radio Silence is the solo project of Ben McLees, formerly of electro-rock band Earth Loop Recall and guitarist in post-rock/ambient band SonVer.
This Is Radio Silence recordings will also feature guest musicians and vocalists who have been successfully coerced into contributing to the sessions.
In Ben's own words:
After ELR fell apart for the second time, I decided my days of fronting a band were over. I'd always hated singing, I'd never been comfortable with the role of frontman. But as has been the situation for the last 12 years, I found myself still writing and recording almost complulsively. Breaking away from the all-consuming 'This Means Nothing To You' album project gave me a new lease of creative freedom. Allowing myself to break rules I'd previously set myself, and finding the whole process of writing and recording far more enjoyable than it had been for years.
I'd previously used the name This Is Radio Silence in 2006, so it was easy to to know what to call the project. 'This Is Radio Silence' is an appropriate name for a multitude of reasons, not least as it's a project which is 99% certain to never make it onto the live stage.
Essentially, TIRS is just the sound of me making music and enjoying doing so. It will not follow any obvious pattern or trend. It will not try to live up to other people's expectations. It is far more likely to confuse than it is to impress. It is for the most part a freeform studio experiment which will straddle numerous genres, colours and moods.
